This was a circumhorizon arc that appeared in an Idaho sky last Saturday. According to MSNBC, it is a "rare meterological event that involves sunlight passing through ice crystals in high elevation clouds at just the right angle."
When I look outside my window, I just see gray, as far as the eye can see.
